Thoughts on Books: "The Grasshopper Jungle," by Andrew Smith I’m not gonna lie—it took me a minute to realize the brilliance of the novel "The Grasshopper Jungle." Thank goodness I had no other reading material on the flight with me. I was hooked once I understood that Smith inspires us to grasp that a million things are happening around us and around the globe while we are all-consumed by our single mundane thought of the moment, not to mention his connections from past to present, all the while interweaving the tale of a young man’s sexual/romantic confusion with a compelling apocalyptic tale, and bugs. If you like young-adult lit and can handle a lot of references to testicles, excrement, and sex, by all means, read this book! It has grasshopped its way into my list of faves.
