I can’t knock a classic by H.G. Wells, in this case, “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” so I will caution you to read it if you are interested in its place in sci-fi literary history and not because you are looking for a suspenseful sci-fi thriller. All kinds of props to H.G. Wells for his imagination and writing in a time when sci-fi wasn’t much of a thing. I keenly wonder how Wells would have written this book today with today’s language, culture, scientific advancement, and sci-fi/fantasy literature abundance. It can be read by all teens and up, but if I were purchasing for a teen, I would choose one of the gabillion contemporary young-adult sci-fi fantasy stories.
